As more adults seek orthodontic treatment due to orthodontic relapse, we are given a rare glimpse of the outcomes of traditional orthodontic treatment. We are seeing patients with all types of recession and severe apical root resorption. We have seen these patients in the past when they were referred for implants treatment secondary to a hopeless tooth diagnosis. But, when you look deeper in the history of these cases, you start to discover that, with better treatment planning, we could have predicted and prevented the hopeless situation.
With new techniques, we are about to anticipate and prevent unwanted orthodontic outcomes. And when appropriate planning is combined with surgical augmentation, we can prevent soft tissue, bone and tooth loss after orthodontics.
This presentation will cover the concepts of treatment planning and surgical techniques related to surgically facilitated orthodontic therapy (SFOT)
Gain an understanding of the bone physiology associated with selective corticotomies
Understand how selective corticotonomies combined with bone grafting can increase bone volume and bone turnover
Develop an understanding of how this modality relates to prevention of recession, root respiration and orthodontic relapse
Experience how this modality can expand the limits of adult orthodontics without orthographic surgery.
